Author: San Francisco bay area boudoir photographer Jason Guy | Here’s a short and sweet BTS video from my recent boudoir photo shoot with Nikki! Women like her are the major reason I love doing what I do so much! Nikki is a hardworking mom of a little boy and giving her images like the ones you’ll see in the above video is truly an amazing self confidence boost to give to a woman like her!
If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, the strongest reason to do a boudoir session is to help you change the way you see yourself and make you feel good about yourself as you are!!! Boudoir has never been about, fixing this or that perceived body flaw and then documenting yourself once you are “perfect.” Boudoir is about changing the way you see yourself, and shutting down the negative thoughts I hear expressed by so many of my beautiful clients. I believe every women I photograph has truly stunning assets to showcase, and I can’t wait to discover yours and show them back to you in your final images.
Boudoir Before & After
If you loved this post, check out these sessions!
One of the most curious things I get to observe as a male boudoir photographer is just how prevalent it is for women latch on to perceived body flaws and build narratives around them. As a whole, we as men don’t do this nearly as much as women do. This behavior is actually something so uncommon in men I actually have to slow down and explain women’s perspective to men curious about why a woman would want to do a boudoir session for herself.
To further exaggerate this, I’ll show women the images from past clients who did their sessions despite their insecurities and often times they will make a comment along the lines of
“what the fuck did she have to be nervous about?!? She’s gorgeous!!!”
The truth that I think most women don’t realize is that the inner critic is something that infects the minds of women of all body types and age ranges. It’s a condition that has no mercy that I’ve personally seen exhibited in published models and mothers of multiple children alike.
Does the thought of doing a boudoir session make you super nervous? If you’re nodding your head yes, you’re not alone. A clear majority of my clients are typically visibly nervous before we start photographing their sessions. In most cases I usually only need about 10-20 minutes to break though that nervousness and most people are completely comfortable after that.
Most women that contact me, are super nervous about their sessions. They are worried about this or that perceived body flaw and how they will appear when I level my camera at them. This was not one of those sessions. No, Devon has been photographed before and she is one of the rare women I have had come see me, that is super confident in herself.

A heartfelt verbal complement is a really awesome thing that everyone really enjoys receiving. When someone shows you how much they appreciate what you do with an action though… That’s the kind of compliment that I love because I know its not hollow words but rather something authentic and genuine.
So I called my sister last month and asked her what she wanted for her birthday. The call went something like this:
Me: Hey what do you want for your birthday?
Her: A swim suit photo shoot on the beach!
Me: I can do that!
