What is the Best Lighting for Boudoir Photography?

Boudoir photo illuminated by a North facing window

Soft, diffuse lighting is the best lighting for boudoir photography because it’s more forgiving for imperfections and it’s easier light to pose into.

North facing windows are often the best natural light sources for boudoir photography because the sun never directly comes in though these windows. This non-direct lighting creates soft, diffused light.

For artificial lights such as speed lights and strobes, It’s generally best to cross light women with large modifiers. Cross lighting is best for highlighting a woman’s curves while big light sources from a window or doorway make the light soft and more forgiving.
