This page is a broad overview of boudoir lingerie ideas that’s indexed by outfit style to give inspiration for your photo shoot. I’ll also show you some creative ideas using some things you probably already have to help you build authenticity in your photos and save some money.
If you’re unsure which lingerie styles would compliment your body type best, I recommend you start with this post about how to choose the perfect boudoir outfit first, and then come back here for more ideas.

Bras
A very common thing I hear women mention at their boudoir consultations is nervousness about their chest. For some women it’s a lack of size they’re worried about. For others it’s a lack of perkiness which is common among mothers and mature women. In any case, there are style options that will help improve your curves and likewise your photos.
Push-up Bra
Push up bras are the classic solution to make your breasts look bigger. This bra style creates the appearance of increased cleavage through the use of angled cups containing padding. This design pushes the breasts inwards and upwards, towards the center of the chest giving the illusion of more volume.
If you are not a lean body type, but still have small breasts, make sure the torso band that sits below your breasts has a wide strap (more common on bralettes). This is because the narrow torso straps can dig into the torso and cause skin to roll over a thin strap in unflattering ways.
If you find that your skin is rolling over, simply choose a different bra with a wider torso band to prevent or minimize this.
Bralette
A bralette is a lightweight, comfortable bra option that doesn’t have an underwire.
Typically, these designs are unlined, pullover styles with less structure and support compared to push-up bras, however, they are perfect for small-busted women.
Decorative cut tops and wide torso bands subtly create the illusion of more volume in the chest. This makes bralettes a good boudoir outfit choice for subtly enhancing women with small busts.
For women who are self-conscious about skin rolls or soft tissue around the upper torso, a bralette’s wide torso band can offer a smoothing effect.
Additionally if push-up bras fail to give you enough cleavage, shallow plunge bralettes are a good way to provide generous coverage that still looks feminine.
Demi Bra
If you find yourself to have a medium to large bust, you will generally have more versatility in your bra choices. To enhance your shape or address slight size imbalances, consider wearing a well-fitted demi bra.
This type of bra, also known as a “half cup,” is a fantastic option for shaping your bust while also keeping things modest in your photos.
The demi bra is an excellent general shaper, providing moderate cleavage and a subtle lift without overdoing it. This gentle shaping is great for most body types including those with: hourglass, square, and apple body shapes.
Demi Bras are also a really good all around choice for women who’ve experience signifigant weight loss and mothers that need support.
Be mindful to try your bra on when you get it and make sure your skin doesn’t fold over the bottom strap. If it does, choose a wider band for a smoother look.
Balconette Bra
Balconette bras are designed with cups cut horizontally, lifting the bust without pushing it inward. This design create a perky look while maximizing cleavage.
For large-busted women, especially those who may be insecure about sagging, balconettes provide the necessary lift while ensuring full support.
Larger-breasted mothers, plus-size women, those who have lost significant weight and women with augmented breasts would all be good candidates for this style.
Small busted women would generally do best to avoid this design in favor of push-up or bralette styles.
Shelf Bra
Shelf bras, also known as cupless, open-cup, or quarter-cup bras, are a the most revealing tops but also still offer a slight amount of lift and shaping for the bust line. Some even have an underwire to give extra support even with the cupless design.
These bras are perfect for women who want that topless look but also think they’d look better with just a touch of shaping.
Good candidates for this style include 40+ women, moms, and women with a moderate size bust. Women with very large or very small breasts would generally benefit more form other styles that offer better shaping/support.
Corsets
Corsets have long been celebrated for their ability to accentuate a woman’s natural hourglass figure. Whether you’re looking for a standard-sized corset or something custom-fitted, these versatile garments flatter all body types, creating a silhouette that highlights the natural feminine curves. One of the greatest strengths of a corset is how it can exaggerate the waist, making the hips and bust appear more prominent by comparison. This exaggerates your natural hour glass shape that men are hard wired to be attracted to.
For plus-size women, corsets offer a particularly slimming effect. They reduce the waist while emphasizing the bust and hips, which is often a key concern. If you’re self-conscious about your tummy or midsection, A well-fitted corset provides firm support and enhances the body’s natural shape.
To determine the best length corset for you, measure from the bottom of your breast to your hip in a seated position. Women who measure 8-11 inches should opt for a standard length corset, while shorter torsos are best suited for “waspie” styles, and women with longer torsos should consider longline styles.
If you’re considering a more affordable option, keep in mind that many budget corsets come with less durable satin laces. A great hack is to replace the lace with a paracord or flat lace to improve the look and durability of your corset significantly.
Tips for Choosing the Right Corset
- Consider Your Bust Size: Whether you’re petite or plus-size, choose a style that provides the right support and enhancement.
- Look for Quality Materials: Opt for corsets made with quality fabrics and boning for the best support, shape and better photos.
- Try to Avoid: Corsets made from synthetic materials like polyester, nylon, PVC, etc. These materials look cheap in photos compared to natural materials like cotton, silk and quality non-synthetic lace.
- Experiment with Styles: Try different corset styles to find the one that best flatters your unique figure. Examples include waspie, under bust, long line, corset dresses and shoulder strap coresets.
- Get a Custom Fit: For the most flattering photos, have your corset made bespoke from your measurements e.g.
- Best Lingerie For Plus-Size Women: A well fitting coreset is the best boudoir lingerie for plus size bodies offering the most shaping around the waist while also enhancing your curves at your bust and hips.
Under-bust Corset
Under-bust corsets, closely related to waist cinchers, are a fantastic option for highlighting your chest while sculpting your torso.
Unlike full corsets, under-bust styles contour around the lower portion of the breasts, drawing attention to the bust while shaping the torso. This makes them ideal for topless looks while still offering tummy concealment and shaping.
If you’re self-conscious about your midsection, under-bust corsets allow you to show off your bust while simultaneously minimizing your tummy. But this doesn’t mean under-bust corsets are just for topless looks.
One of the most powerful ways to leverage under-bust corsets is to pair them with different bras for mix and match looks. This is a very powerful technique because it allows you to shape your bust and mid section independently.
For example, small busted women might pair their under-bust corset with a push up bra to make their bust appear more shapely. While, larger busted women might pair their corset with a demi bra for just the right amount of shape and lift.
Tips For Styling Under-bust Corsets
Under-bust corsets are one of the most versatile pieces of lingerie you can buy for their ability to be worn by themselves or paired with other pieces for enhanced looks. Here are a few ways you can use this once piece for different looks:
- Pair with Different Bras: Experiment with various bras to find the best combination for your body type and the look you like.
- Highlight Your Best Features: Use an under-bust corset topless to draw attention to your bust while shaping your waist.
- Experiment with Layers: Under-bust corsets work well over or under clothing, allowing for versatile styling options. Pair with things like a tulle skirt or a button up blouse for interesting styling opportunities that leverage the shaping affects of the corset.
Tips For Upgrading Your Corset Lace
Most of the time when you buy a budget corset, they come with a really shitty satin lace that’s cheap looking.
A great way to upgrade the look of your corset is by simply replacing the satin lace with a long flat lace, paracord lace or some other quality closure.
Replacing the lace on your corset is an easy and very inexpensive way to make your corset look more expensive without breaking the bank.
Thigh High Stockings & Socks
Stockings are close-fitting, elastic leg coverings that cover the leg from the foot up to the thigh. They pair beautifully with most lingerie, especially garter sets, as the lower straps are designed to connect to the stockings.
Thigh-high stockings and socks are also an excellent choice for those who want to conceal varicose veins or smooth out upper thigh cellulite. Stocking provide concealment while appearing stylistically cohesive with the rest of your outfit.
For women self-conscious about cellulite or other leg imperfections, thicker lace or knit materials are a great option to provide maximum coverage while still keeping things sexy.
In winter months, thigh high socks are also a fantastic way to give your photos that cozy look while still showing enough at the upper thigh to keep things spicy.
Tips for Choosing and Styling Stockings
- Match Your Outfit: Choose stockings that complement the color and style of your lingerie.
- Consider Your Needs: If you want to cover varicose veins or cellulite, opt for thicker materials like decorative laces and knit socks.
- Opt for Quality: Invest in high-quality stockings like those from Kixies that offer different sizes rather than the one size fits all options available at most retailers.
- Pair with Garter Sets: Garter sets are designed to connect with stockings, enhancing the overall look.
Teddy/Bodysuits
A teddy, also known as a bodysuit, is a common lingerie style that covers the bust, torso, and crotch in one garment. Similar to a one-piece swimsuit, teddies offer a seamless look that is often crafted from delicate, sheer materials.
Just like swimsuits however, bodysuits can come in many different styles. For example:
- Halter-top teddies, which tie around the neck, are great for showcasing your back.
- Deep plunge teddies are designed to keep attention on your chest.
- Low-rise teddies, with bottom details resembling high-rise shorts, are excellent for plus-size women seeking to conceal cellulite on their butt.
- Teddies with high leg holes, are excellent for exaggerating the curves of the hips for women with a rectangle body type.
Teddies made with stretchy materials also provide light shaping for the midsection which is excellent for moms, plus size women or women who’ve lost significant weight.
In short, bodysuits are a pretty great choice for many women, however overweight women may find that they don’t offer enough shaping for the tummy and torso.
Skirts / Robes / Dresses Gowns
A gown, robe, or skirt can look good on all body types. They’re really good for both dressing up or dressing down your look, depending on your comfort level.
For instance, a robe, can be layered over your favorite bra and panty set, teddy, or body suit to add another layer of dimension to your outfit. For a spicier look, a sheer lace gown worn with nothing underneath can make for a classy sexy, implied nude look.
For women who hold a disproportionate amount of body fat in their upper arms, robes with sleeves are my favorite ways to draw attention away from this area and towards the legs, bust and mid section.
Skirts are another fantastic option, especially for petite women, and those struggling with narrower hips like apple body types. Fluffy materials like tulle are great for creating the illusion of wider hips and extending the hip line to balance your hourglass silhouette.
Like robes, skirts can also be paired with various tops or your favorite teddy, resulting in unique, one-of-a-kind mix and match looks.
For example, pair a tulle skirt with your favorite bra for one set of images, and then pair the same skirt with a corset for the next set. This effectively creates two different looks by re-using the same skirt twice.
Chemise / Babydoll
Traditionally, chemise lingerie refers to loose-fitting, sleeveless sleepwear that isn’t fitted at the waist. However, modern chemises often feature sexier cuts that are tighter around the waist and hips.
Chemises are usually designed without buttons or fasteners and are worn by either pulling them over your head or stepping into them.
For photo shoots, I recommend these contemporary form fitted styles, as they accentuate your shape better than looser styles. Traditional loose fitting sleep styles have a baggier fit that will diminish your curves.
While chemises usually have more of a straight cut down your body, babydolls are typically looser around the hips which are great for women that want their hips to appear wider.
Those with apple and rectangle body types in particular usually benefit most from empire waist babydoll styles. These styles hug the waist (usually with an elastic band) and flair out which is a good way visually enhance your hip to waist ratio.
High Waist Panties
The lower stomach is a common area of concern for many women. One time tested way to conceal this area is by choosing lingerie with a high waist profile. High-waist panties, garters, and skirts are fantastic options for this purpose.
High waisted bottoms in particular provide coverage for the lower tummy while still showing off the upper abdominal area. This is great way to keep things sexy especially for moms or those who have loose skin due to significant weight loss.
High waist panties are also one of the best styles if you hold body fat in your love handle area. While some might need a bodysuit or corset to effectively smooth out the muffin top look, most can correct this with a set of high waist bottoms up to their belly button to lightly shape the area.
As mentioned earlier, high waist panties are also great lingerie to layer with a sheer lace robe, creatively with a sport coat or even his uniform.
Thong
Thongs are a popular underwear style that highlights your butt and hips while offering minimal but tasteful coverage. They’re a great choice for women who want to accentuate their curves without going nude.
This style works best for those who feel confident about their lower body and are comfortable showing more skin. Thongs are especially flattering if you don’t have concerns about your tummy or thighs. That said, if you’re self-conscious about your thighs or cellulite, you can also pair a thong with a sheer skirt, babydoll, robe or stockings for better coverage.
Hourglass and pear shaped body types can select from styles with straight cut tops, however rectangle and apple body types should always choose styles with higher cut leg holes. High leg openings allow you to pose with the thong straps above your hips bones which creates the illusion of curvier hip to waist ratio.
Sheer Tops
Originally designed as beach cover-ups to wear over a bathing suit, sheer tops can be repurposed for your boudoir session to be worn with or without a bra. This tend to look really good for outdoor photos like beach or vineyard portraits.
If you plan to pair a sheer top with a bra, it generally looks best to wear complimentary or like colors so the bra and shirt don’t clash or get lost into each other. It’s also a good idea to pair sheer tops with minimalist bras or bathing suit tops so that the bra doesn’t overwhelm it.
Most wear sheer tops by themselves for a tasteful implied nude look, but if you choose to pair them with a bra, it’s always a good idea to try everything on before your photo shoot to make sure they compliment each other and the setting.
For example, a lacey black demi bra would likely clash with the sheer top featured in this section. Not only would the lace likely overpower the embroidered flowers, but the full coverage of the bra would look oversized with the minimalist nature of the high cut sheer top.
Garter Belts
Garter belts are usually worn over a thong or bikini brief and connect to stockings with straps. This is one of the best ways to offer minimalist coverage of tummy tuck scars or even lightly take attention away loose skin or a lower tummy pooch.
Some garter belts even offer enough coverage that they can even be a good solution for plus size women or those concerned about a muffin top.
That said, garter belts aren’t just about hiding lower tummy insecurities, they’re also the best way to tie your bra and panties in with your stockings for a cohesive look.
It’s for these reasons that garter belts can be not only a great style addition for women with hourglass bodies, but they’re also a great, non-shaping option for rectangle and pear body shapes that want to conceal lower tummy issues.
Apple body types and overweight women would generally do best to avoid garter belts in favor of styles like high waist panties or corsets that offer better shaping and coverage.
Sexy Things You Already Have
The following are some alternatives to traditional boudoir lingerie ideas in favor of things you probably already have in your closet.

T-Shirt
Posed seductively and without a bra to attract attention to your chest, the humble t-shirt is often overlooked for things to bring. Make sure and opt for shirts with wide or low cut necks or high midriff cuts to make it a little spicy.

Sweater
A sweater and your favorite pair of panties is sexy way to style fall and winter looks. Add thigh high socks and a hot beverage to signal cozy vibes for deep winter sessions. Always opt for midriff sweaters or those with large head holes for even sexier posing options.

Anything Zip-Up
Anything that zips or buttons up is great for the beginning of the album as you work out of your clothes and into your lingerie. Both front and back opening outfits offer unique posing opportunities to help tell a story for your album or just for some unique detail shots in general.

Scarves
A scarf is like boudoir sleight of hand. I use these in just about every session to draw attention away from areas you’re sensitive about and toward the other areas of your body you love. They’re also a great way to add coverage for conservative implied nude looks.

Tank Top
Similar idea to the wide neck t-shirt, tank tops are a pretty great way to show off some side boob and while also providing generous coverage for your torso. This is an especially effective casual look for plus size women or mom’s who have insecurities around their tummy.

Sport Coat
If you have a blazer, sport jacket, (or in this case a white tuxuedo) repurpose it for your boudoir session. Use like color panties, stockings or even a garter for that a high end look on a budget.

Your Favorite Blouse
Any kind of shirt that buttons, ties or zips up from the front is good for shots that tease your chest.
Another idea is to use his button up shirt for some shots. That said, curvier women would generally do better to stick to their own blouse if their partners, shirt is super loose fitting. The loose fit can make you look bigger which will work against some body types.

His Uniform
If your husband or boyfriend is a firefighter, police officer, military, or anything else that requires a uniform, you can borrow it and include it as an outfit in your photo shoot.
If you’d like to take things a step further, you can also bring tools or hobby items like guitars and so forth and I can pose you with those during your photo shoot also.
