Do These 3 Things For Tasteful Halloween Boudoir Photos
Halloween boudoir photos have always made me think of poorly done horror photos in cheap lingerie and bad makeup. That said it’s really not that hard to style a tastefully sexy Halloween shoot. With a little bit of forethought and some good styling decisions, you can totally get classy Halloween boudoir photos.
To improve the quality of your Halloween boudoir photoshoot I suggest the following:
Halloween Boudoir Outfits
The Halloween boudoir outfits you choose can have a monumental impact on the overall look of your photos. Most simply put, you can have the best pose under the best lighting and be captured by the best boudoir photographer out there, but if your outfits are tacky, your images likely will be also.
This isn’t to say that you can’t DIY some fantastic looks on a budget. What it does mean is that if you search affordable lingerie retailers with terms like “Halloween lingerie” or “sexy Halloween costumes” you’ll likely have to sift through a bunch of low quality garbage that will drag the quality of your photos down.
So which lingerie should you get for your Halloween photo shoot? The best answer to this is that it largely depends on what styles of lingerie will enhance your body type most. If you need Halloween boudoir outfit ideas for your specific body type, I suggest you check out this post. It will give you tons of ideas so you can at least get started with your search on the right foot!
Hire a Good Makeup Artist For Your Halloween Boudoir Photos
Akin to having cheap lingerie, bad makeup can totally make or break your Halloween Boudoir photos. I personally dislike the trend of the bloody horror style photos that seem to be trendy lately.
For my sessions I keep the makeup classically beautiful, but still dark and dramatic. I much more prefer the evil Disney witch vibes over chainsaw massacre makeup, but to each their own.
Remember that the goal here is to still get tastefully sexy photos. Part of pulling off that look is going to be getting makeup done that will enhance your features rather than diminish them like a horror scene would.
Whoever you choose to hire for your makeup, make sure you like the work they show in their portfolio. If you want to go against my advice and get SFX makeup for your photoshoot, hiring a talented artist experienced in SFX becomes much more important.
This is because bad makeup will likely compromise your photos. For beauty and simplicity I much prefer dark eyeshadows and eyeliners that will compliment the outfits you select rather than compete with them.
Hire a Photographer With a Moody Style For Your Halloween Boudoir Photos
If you want tastefully sexy boudoir photos choosing a boudoir photographer with a style to match your intended session will be crucial to the outcome of your photo shoot. It should go without saying that if you hire a photographer who’s work looks tacky, no outfit or makeup artist will likely be able to save your final photos from turning out sub par also.
Once you find a photographer with a style you love, it’s important to then let them direct you on how best to get photos like they show. A common mistake I see many women make is hiring a photographer to recreate photos that they found on Pinterest. Asking a photographer to recreate someone else's work rarely works out well.
A better plan would be to hire a photographer that created your favorite images on your Pinterest inspiration board. This way the photographer who inspired you can direct you through their process to give you similar images.
This is a much better way to get photos like what inspired you. Asking a photographer with a fantastic, but totally different portfolio then what you want likely won’t get you photos like you want. It’s a much better idea to hire people that are practiced in the look you want. This might even mean traveling to your photographer once you find the right fit.
